Powerhouse Sound Band

Powerhouse Sound band is a tightly-knit quartet from Chicago. The band comprise of Ken Vandermark, tenor saxophone; Jeff Parker, guitar; Nate McBride, electric bass; and John Herndon on drums.

It's hard to truly describe the style of music, collective and individual talent in the band. In my opinion, the band is like a large planet, and the sound they create is like gravity, its mystical and powerful, no escaping it will suck you in.

If you get within listen range of Powerhouse Sound live on stage, It will capture you. Once you're in the zone, there's no way of escaping its mesmerizing, hypnotic sound dynamics and instrument effects.

Anat Cohen

If there's any genius musicians on planet earth, Anat Cohen is undoubtedly one of them. Accompanied by a trio of bass, piano and drums, she unleashed a volley of unparallel solo improvisation at the Newport jazz festival.

This young female Clarinet & saxophone player is an awesome site to behold in concert. Her improvisational fluidity, showmanship and confidence on stage, is equally impressive as her ability to play the Clarinet.

Anat is a unique and captivating performing artist. She brings another level of musical skills to the jazz music theatre and excitement to the world of instrumental music lovers. Visit her website at ANATCOHEN to learn more about her.

Marshall Allen

Speaking of unique jazz musicians and bands, the festival was graced by a trio of spell bounding improvisers, Marshall Allen on sax and winds, Matthew Shipp playing piano and Joe Morris on bass.  What set this band apart from the rest, is the rare and conspicuous absent of a drummer.
